Delete an Email Address from the AutoComplete List in Outlook

Work smarter, not harder! Outlook tip – In Outlook 2010, when we send messages, the email addresses used are remembered for future use – even if we do not add the address to our Contacts list. When we begin typing an email address in a message, Outlook displays a list of these previously used addresses (AutoComplete list) that match the letter(s) we enter. This Outlook feature is usually a helpful tool, but when email addresses become outdated or if the AutoComplete list has grown so long it’s not helpful, it’s time to delete unwanted email addresses from the list!

Use this tip to quickly and easily delete email addresses from the AutoComplete list that you no longer want!

Delete an Email Address from the AutoComplete List

  1. In the To, Cc, or Bcc field of an email message, begin entering the first letters of an email address. An AutoComplete list appears.
  2. In the AutoComplete list, point to the email address to delete and click the Delete button û that appears to the right of the name; or,
press the up or down arrow on the keyboard to select the email address to delete and press [Delete].
