Create a New Outlook Item from an Existing Item
Work smarter, not harder!
Outlook Tip – New Outlook items can be created from existing items; a new e‑mail message, calendar entry, task, contact, or note can be created from an existing e-mail message, calendar entry, task, contact, or note. For example, we have an e-mail containing details of an upcoming lunch get-together and we want to create a calendar entry based on these details. Use this tip to create a quick calendar entry!
Create a New Outlook Item from an Existing Item
- Drag the item (e‑mail message, calendar entry, task, etc.) and drop it on top of the button in the Navigation Pane that represents the desired new item to create. The appropriate window opens. (In the example above, we would drag the e-mail message containing the lunch get-together details and drop it on top of the Calendar button in the Navigation Pane.).
- Activate the new item window and make changes (i.e. date & time) as desired.
- As necessary, click Save & Close, Send, or Close.
• Creating a different item from an existing item does not delete the existing item.
